What Every Bond Girl Looks Like Today

Ever since Ursula Andress walked up on the beach as Honey Ryder in Dr. No, in that iconic bikini, Bond girls have been a mandatory part of the James Bond world. In each movie, they have different roles. Sometimes they are allies, sometimes they are enemies, and sometimes they are even frenemies, and in some cases, they’re completely wild cards.

Still, for more than 50 years, Bond girls have given Agent 007 a run for his money in the race to see who can be more compelling on the big screen. In celebration of that incredible legacy and the many stars who have contributed to it, let’s take a quick look at the most important Bond girls ever, then and now.

25. Ursula Andress

Among Bond girls, Ursula Andress is something like a trendsetter. She helped set the template for future Bond girls. A big movie hit, Dr. No that premiered in 1962 made her an instant star. The scene in which she walks out of the ocean in a bikini is one of the franchise’s most memorable entrances, and many replicated this scene later on.

Ursula was a star and sex symbol during the 1960s and 1970s and even had Aphrodite’s role in Clash of the Titans in 1981. During the 1990s her acting career slows down and she hasn’t made a film since 2005.

24. Eunice Gayson

Bond. James bond. – there cannot be a James bond movie without this line. Originally, this line came from a woman, Eunice Jayson to be precise. She starred alongside Sean Connery in Dr. No, when she first time speaks the immoral words: ‘Trench. Sylvia Trench’ – before Bond ever did.

Trench was the first Bond’s love interest, and Eunice is the only bond girl to have appeared twice. Sylvia was also the only one who seduces the spy, rather than the other way around. Eunice filmed her last movie in 1963, and it was From Russia with Love. Gayson died on 8 June 2018 at the age of 90.

23. Zena Marshall

Zena first appeared in Dr. No, as miss taro. Her role was the very first ‘bad girl’ of the series. Zena and sean had a memorable bathroom scene that took them three days to film.

Following her famous role, Zena appeared in popular films and TV shows. Like many Bond girls of her time, she retired to focus on domestic life. After a short illness, Zena passes away in 2009, at the age of 84.

22. Halle Berry

Berry was already a big star when she joined the Bond franchise. Fro the role in MOnster’s Ball Berry was awarded an Academy Award, and she was already starring in the X-Men franchise before joining Brosnan in Die Another Day. However, after her success as Bond girl, her career suffered a few missteps, including the infamous Gothika and even worse Catwoman movies.

She also had a very rough period in private life. However, that didn’t stop her and she had a return to the X-Men series and continued her acting career. Her most recent project was Sofia’s role in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

21. Famke Janssen

Famke Janssen was a very successful model before she transitioned to acting. Her role as the assassin Xenia Onatopp in GoldenEye was massive. The role of powerful women who could kill men by crushing them to death with her powerful thighs rocketed her to stardom.

Thanks to this movie she got the role of Jean Grey in the X-Men franchise. She portrayed powerful Jean in a total of four movies. She also had memorable appeared in Taken, Nip/Tuck, How to Get Away with Murder, and Hemlock Grove. She can also be seen in the Netflix original series Central Park Five. 

20. Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh was a big star through t the 1990s, especially in Hong Kong action cinema. She is no stranger to fight scenes and dramatic moments. However, her big breakout was starring as Wai Lin alongside Pierce Brosnan in Tomorrow Never Dies.

In 2000, she had another international hit, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She is still active in Hollywood. Her recent hit was the 2018 megahit Crazy Rich Asians.

19. Teri Hatcher

At one moment, it has become normal to have a high-profile actress starring as Bond girl, and Tomorrow Never Dies continued with that trend. The second Brosnan movie added Teri Hatcher in the key role of Paris Carver. Before Bond, Teri was mostly known for her Lois & Clark role: The New Adventures of Superman.

After the Bond role, Teri landed her life’s role in the ABC series Desperate Housewives, for which she won a Golden Globe Award and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. Recently, she appeared in the CBS series The Odd Couple. She even returned to DC Comics-inspired roles as well, playing Rhea on Supergirl. 

18. Denise Richards

Denise Richards started her career as a model and a very successful one before transitioning to big screen. Through the 1990s, Denise was a big star, and it seemed fitting to appear next to James Bond. In 2008, she had her own TV show, named Denise Richards: It’s Complicated.

The following year she joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2019. Her memorable roles include the cult classic Wild Things and Drop Dead Gorgeous and Twisted drama series.

17. Sophie Marceau

Sophie became an international star during the 1990s when her movies, Fanfan, and Revenge of the Musketeers kicked off. Then she portrayed Queen Isabella in Braveheart, a role that pushed her career even further. In 1999, she got the role of the villainous Elektra King in The World Is Not Enough.

After Bond’s experience, she continued to work as an actress, writer, and even movie director. In 2015, she served on the main competition jury for the Cannes Film Festival.

16. Eva Green

With Daniel Craig, a new era of the James Bond franchise started. He needed strong support, so producers and casting team choose Eva Green as Vesper Lynd. This role kicked off her international career and she set a new standard for Bond girls in the 2000s.

For this role, she earned a BAFTA Rising Star Award. From there she appeared in many roles, including Camelot, Dark Shadows, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and White Bird in a Blizzard. In 2019, she joined Tim Burton on Dumbo.

15. Olga Kurylenko

At the begging of the 2000s, Olga Kurylenko was known mostly as a model. Then she landed a role in the video game adaptations hitman and Max Payne in 2005, and Hollywood opened her its door.

By 2008 she had landed the role of Camille montes alongside Daniel Craig in Quantum of Solace, and from there she continued filming hit after hits. Some of her movies include titles such as Johnny English Strikes Again.

14. Naomie Harris

By the time she joined Daniel Craig in Skyfall, Naomie had already a ten years old career of acting. She had role sin 28 Days Later and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Fans loved her in Skyfall so much, that she reprised her role in 2015’s Spectre. One of the biggest projects after this one includes Rampage and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. In 2017, she was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. 

13. Léa Seydoux

Just like Naomie Harris, famous Léa Seydoux has been acting for more than a decade when she first joined the Bond crew. Still, in many ways, her career is very young.

She achieved international acclaim in 2013 for her role in Blue is the Warmest Color, had roles in Spectre, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Isle of Dogs. In 2018, it was announced that she will reprise her role as Dr. Madeleine Swann for the 25th Bond film
.

12. Izabella Scorupco

Izabella is a globally known actress known for her great performance in Exorcist: The Beginning. Before she landed the role as Natalya Simonova in GoldenEye, she was already a successful model, singer, and actress.

In 2011, she decided to return to singing, so she joined forces with Swedish vocalist Peter Joback, and in 2012 she served as host of Sweden’s Next Top Model. 

11. Judi Dench

Judi Dench as a bond girl? Well, why not! This remarkable actress can only add that extra class in a blockbuster. The Brosnan era brought a lot of new moments, including Judi who played the head of m16 as a resourceful woman who could put Bond in his place.

She was ao perfect for the role that she was back in 2012, to support Craig in Skyfall. Dench is a respectful actress with a decades-long career and many hits before and after Bond. After the Bond appearance, the biggest hits included Philomena, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Victoria & Abdul.

10. Samantha Bond

The Pierce Brosnan ear of Bond began in 1995, with a new Moneypenny in the form of Samantha Bond. Samantha has been a stage and screen actress who’s been a long-standing member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Samantha appeared in all four Brosnan movies as Moneypenny. She was busy after the BOnd movies, and recently she is busy as Lady Rosamund Painswick on the hit series Downton Abbey. 

9. Carey Lowell

Like many of the Bond girls, Carey started her career as a model before she got her first chance to break into the movie industry. She received positive reviews and claimed success as Pam Bouvier in Licence To Kill, the second and final Bond film of the Dalton era.

Carey continued having success and in the 1990s she landed a major role as Jamie Ross on Law & Order beginning in 1996. She was married to the famous actor Richard Gere. The two separated in the mid-2010s and they went through a three-year-long legal battle until they finally settled in 2016. As of 2018, she made a comeback starring on the CBS series Blue Bloods and Bull.

8. Maryam d’Abo

In 1987, Maryam d’Abo kicked off the timothy dalton era as cellist Kara Milovy in The Living Daylights. This role was her breakthrough and she has continued to work as a model and as an actress ever since. In 2002, she hosted the documentary bond girls are forever in tribute to the legacy of women in bond films – as a talented writer she co-wrote a companion book with the same title.

In 2007 she suffered a near-fatal brain hemorrhage, from which she later recovered. She has openly talked about her fears related to this event, how she recovered, and overall experience.

7. Grace Jones

A View to a Kill, the final Roger Moore Bond film, had not one but two major Bond girls, and Grace Jones was instantly memorable as Max Zorin’s (Christopher Walken) deadly bodyguard and lover May Day. This movie wasn’t well-received, but Walken and Joens are memorized as a power couple up to this day.

This movie was Jones’ biggest release as an actress. She is mostly focused on music, and after the role of Zorin, she released ten studio albums. In 2015, Jones released an autobiography, I Never Write My Memoirs.

6. Tanya Roberts

To older generations, Tanya Roberts isn’t only known as a Bond girl, she is best known for her role in Charley’s Angels, The Beastmaster, and Sheena. Before she landed her first role, Roberts began her career as a model.

Her most recent role was Donna’s mother Midge on That ’70s Show. However, she had to leave the show to care about her husband Barry who became terminally ill. Sadly, her husband died in 2006, and Tanya remained inactive.

5. Maud Adams

Adams played two different Bond girls, and that something that no one ever managed to repeat. She first appeared as Scaramanga’s lover Andrea Anders in The Man with the Golden Gun, and then returned for the title role of the mysterious female crime lord with a taste for jewels in 1983’s Octopussy.

She even appeared a third time as an uncredited cameo in A View to a Kill. She continued to work regularly as a film and television actress until largely retiring in the late 2000s.

4. Carole Bouquet

Carole Bouquet’s film career kicked off in 1977 with films like That Obscure Object of Desire and Blank Generation, while her international fame came with the role of Melina Havelock next to Roger Moore in For Your Eyes Only.

She continued acting in many films, series, and plays. In 1990, she won a Cesar Award, and she even appeared in an episode of Sex and the City. Most recently, she was seen in the 2018 release Kiss & Tell. 

3. Lois Chiles

Lois starter her career as a model, and then started testing her luck with acting roles. SHe landed high-profile roles in The Way We Were, The Great Gatsby, and Death on the Nile before she was offered the female lead in The Spy Who Loved Me.

Then a period came when Lois decided to step back and rest from many roles until she accepted the role of Dr. Holly Goodhead in the final Bond film of the 1970s, Moonraker. She continued acting through the 1980s and 1990s in shows such as Dallas, s, Creepshow 2, and Broadcast News. In 2002, she taught film acting at the University of Houston.

2. Barbara Bach

Barbara joined the Bond franchise as Agent Anya “XXX” Amasova in The Spy Who Loved Me. Here, she played Bond’s equal and rival before eventually becoming his ally and lover. After this role, she continued acting.

Since 1981 she has been married to former Beatle Ringo Starr. In her free time, Barbara is busy doing charity work, forming the Self Help Addiction Recovery Program (SHARP)

1. Britt Ekland

Britt ruled Hollywood in the 1960s and 1970s thanks to her original roles in The Night They Raided Minsky’s, Get Carter, and The Wicker Man. On top of that, she was in a relationship with Peter Sellers, which only add to her existing popularity.

Her role as Miss Goodnight in The Man with the Golden Gun cemented her sex symbol status, and she continued acting. In 2018, she appeared as a contestant on the Swedish series let’s dance.
